Anti-Drug Unit Busts Cocaine on Boom-Hattieville Road
Police have confirmed a major cocaine bust that occurred over the weekend. The report is that this past Saturday the Anti-Narcotics Unit were conducting an Interdiction Exercise near the Philip Goldson Highway junction with the Burrell Boom Road when they made the bust. Alert officers spotted a heavily tinted SUV turning unto the Boom Road in an attempt to avoid the checkpoint. The Unit pursued the vehicle; when it came to a stop, one of the occupants exited the passenger side, but fled into the bushes. While so doing he dropped a black and red bag. The Unit located the bag which was found to contain nine parcels of cocaine weighing-in at over ten kilos which is more than twenty pounds of the drug. Here is the thing, as the photos show, the parcels of cocaine had logos on them but their origin has not been established. Police estimate the value of the drug is three hundred and sixty-four thousand U.S. dollars which is the equivalent of seven hundred twenty-eight thousand Belize dollars. No one has been arrested.
