Trial for Sales Representative Accused of Sex Assault on Minor
A sales representative accused of sexually abusing a minor earlier this year will have to stand trial at the Supreme Court for two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse. Following a preliminary inquiry, twenty-eight year old Shane Gentle, of Belize City, learnt he will proceed to trial in the January 2017 session of the Supreme Court. The PI occurred before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where Gentle chose not to challenge any of the evidence from the police to prove their charge against him. Prosecutor in the case, Inspector Egbert Castillo, is relying on statements coming from the thirteen-year old minor along with those of other witnesses as well as documented evidence from Gentle. At the end of the paper committal, Gentle told the court he had no alibi to say where he was when the crime occurred. On April nineteenth, 2016, Gentle was first arraigned for the offense and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until days later when he was granted bail through the Supreme Court. The minor reported to police that on March twenty-fourth, 2016, he sexually abused her twice.
