A Cop is Detained in Jeon Peebles’ Murder

Jeon Peebles

A cop is tonight in custody of his colleagues in connection with the execution style murder of Belize City resident Jeon Peebles. The twenty-five year old father of one was picked up by the cops on Sunday night near a supermarket Mahogany Street. Twelve hours later, his body was found off the Boom/Hattieville Road with multiple gunshots to the head. All indications are that he was taken to the location and viciously shot.  Peebles family alleged that those who detained him had a hand in the murder. This afternoon, the police high command said that one officer is under investigation.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“I do not have any update at this time. It is a matter that is being dealt with by the Rural. Yes, it had some implication with southside. And Mr. Cowo, who is the officer in charge of CIB, is working very closely with myself and Mister Broaster to see how we can bring some closure to this investigation.”

“Sir, any of your officers- there are allegations that two of your officers had detained Mister Peebles earlier that day or the day before. Are those two officers being questioned in connection with his death?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Yes. We have one officer in custody who we believe was one of the officers who picked him up. That information, though, is yet to be confirmed. And the allegation that you are saying that two officers did pick him up, we have received that as well and that is the basis on which the officer has been detained. Mister Cowo, as I said, who is assisting the Rural with the investigation, has been busy interviewing those officers, or that officers and other officer who were working that night to be able to ascertain if in fact that officer or any other officer is involved in the detention and subsequent death of Mister Peebles.”

As it relates to the other weekend murder of George Young, which occurred on Saturday evening at Buck’s Barbershop on South Creek in Belize City, that investigation continues. Police also said today that no one has been charged for the shooting death of the father of three. Young was getting a haircut when he was ambushed by at least one gunman who entered the barbershop and opened fire. One other person, nineteen year old Abraham Craig was also critically injured; he remained hospitalized at the K.H.M.H.
