Rural Eastern Division Still Confident in Sarkis Abou-Nehra Case

Of eighteen persons initially charged in connection with the December home invasion at the house of Sarkis Abou-Nehra, twelve have been freed of charges. In an update, police said that all twenty-one DNA results are still not back. Today, Regional Commander of the Rural Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Edward Broaster reassured the media that he was confident that the people who were originally arrested are the ones responsible for the brutal home invasion:

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division

“If anyone was released it was because we have not yet gotten the evidence to establish the connection with those individuals. We had sent twenty one samples for DNA for testing and so far we have only gotten one back. I must mention that DNA is very expensive; as a matter of fact, for those twenty one DNA is costing the government eighty-five thousand U.S. dollars. A sample is one thousand five hundred U.S. dollars apiece. So, what we are looking at, we are awaiting the results of other samples to tray and connect some of the players to the aggravated burglary.”

“So, you haven’t been informed whether indeed some of those men were…?”

“We were told by the D.P.P. in our meetings with the D.P.P. that she will withdraw charges from certain individuals.”

“Will those persons be re-arrested or could they be re-arrested and charged?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“They would, will be re-arrested and charged provided that we can gather the evidence to connect them to the crime.”

“Sir, is this, but at the time now they don’t face any charges; you remain convinced that eighteen of these people, because eighteen in total were charged, that eighteen were involved directly or indirectly with this crime?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“We are confident that they are involved directly or indirectly with the crime, yes.”
