Homeless Cayo man found stabbed to death

A homeless person was also murdered over the weekend in San Ignacio Town.  The vagrant, later identified as Benjamin Gomez, was discovered lying on a bench at a bus stop with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.  It is uncertain what led to the vicious attack which left Gomez fatally injured with cuts to his neck.  Superintendent Richard Rosado who heads the local police department in that jurisdiction is appealing to members of the community to come forward with information that may assist in cracking the case since a motive for the deadly assault is yet to be determined.

“On Saturday, October eighth, 2016, about 5:45 a.m., based on information received of a male person lying motionless at a bus stop located at the corner of Joseph Andrews Drive and the Benque Viejo Road, San Ignacio police visited the said location where the lifeless body of a male person of Hispanic descent was seen lying in a lateral position with multiple stab wounds to the upper part of the body.  The body was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where it awaits a post mortem examination.  Statements have been recorded and we are looking for one person of interest who may be able to assist us in our investigation.  The deceased was later identified as Benjamin Gomez, a homeless individual with the usual place of abode they said is the bus stop.  Police are still trying to ascertain the motive.”

“You mentioned that a motive is yet to be determined, but this individual has been homeless for quite sometime.  Has there been any reports of either his involvement in any kind of criminal activity that would warrant or force someone to seek him out in this violent manner?”

Supt. Richard Rosado

“At this time he is not known to the police but what I would like to say is that our effort of the police in policing the community will only be effective as the involvement of the community in assisting us police in their community and I am appealing to the community if they have any information in connection with this murder and the murder that occurred on September Twenty-first in front of the nightclub on Hudson Street to please come forward and assist us in solving these murders.  They can call the 922 Tips or the 911 hotline.”
