Joy Grant Leaves F.I.U. for Central Bank as Governor
Another major change is at the Central Bank of Belize. We reported back on August first, that Ambassador Joy Grant was moving up from the Financial Intelligence Unit to the Central Bank. The Bank confirmed today that effective October first, 2016 Grant was appointed Governor, replacing Glenford Ysaguirre who held the position since 2008. At the time, Ysaguirre told us that he was not renewing his employment contract, but from what we gathered, Grant had been offered the post following the general elections. Grant is a former Minister of the Energy, Science and Technology and Public Utilities Ministry and has years of diplomatic experience under her belt. A release from Central Bank says that she has significant expertise in innovative financial mechanisms that promote sustainable development in developing countries as well as extensive experience in commercial and development banking, including experience in foreign trade, credit analysis, project supervision, and financial analysis.
