Bartenders and Wait Staff Complete Training

Marcelli Richards

More than twenty trainees received certificates in wait staff and bartender training from the Belize Training and Employment Centre in Belize City.  The Wait Staff Training was geared towards those who were looking to brush up their skills or to learn new techniques in preparation of employment opportunities. News Five stopped in at today’s certification ceremony:

Marcelli Richards, Training Facilitator, BTEC

“Professionalism and work ethics, diversity in the work place as well as time management, resume preparation and of course tips on how to successfully get through a job interview. So, basically it is just everything that would better help our participants on how to cope in going into the work environment and just as well how to deal with life in a whole. The technical component now went into depth with different skills needed to work as a wait staff and bartending in the tourism industry. For those who pursued bartending, they had the opportunity to work with the awesome Mr. Luis Velasquez of the Belize Institute of Mixology, learning how to prepare both local and exotic beverages. While our wait staff participants learnt how to provide professional service while making their experience or customers experience one to remember by practicing how to meet and greet customers as they enter your establishment, having professional table presentation, napkin designs- you guys did some awesome designs- I am very proud and of course serving etiquette. In this section there was constant practice of skills needed just so we or we want our participants to offer exceptional service.”

“Well, in this wait staff training at BTEC, I am very proud to be a participant. I was an ex waitress at Golden Casino in Corozal, so this was a more educational training for me because there I didn’t get to learn about the proper way of setting up the tables. So, this is just to carry me better in society and improve in the business. I had a wonderful experience here, meeting new friends, the teacher; the people here are very great. I really appreciate it. I really hope that they have more training like these so more people can see and experienced what I did. I really loved it. I really, really enjoyed it. It was marvelous. I can’t explain it.”

“The BTEC training has done a lot for me as it has taught me a lot of useful information that I can apply to my daily life and also on the job, especially on the job. It has also enhanced my bartending skills, as well as teach me new skills. Such as managing and solving our everyday conflict while on the job and while not on the job. It also taught me how to address others in a more assertive and professional manner and also how to give our customers the five star customer service.”

The bartending sessions were facilitated by Luis Velasquez.
