Faber Says Some Are Ready to Become Replacement Teachers

Patrick Faber

While the contingency plans that we previously reported on are not yet ready, Minister Faber says he hopes that it will not get that drastic. But there is already interest in a roster of replacements.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“We do have teachers who meet this bill; we do have people who are interested. In fact, even before we spoke amending the rules to allow for a permit to teach, to be given to certain people; we had parents who have indicated to the schools that if the teachers are not going to be there, we are going to come in, we are going to help out. And there is nothing necessarily wrong with that in theory, but legally, you cannot just bring anybody into the school system like that. There are concerns of course that we have and so we want to do things on a proper legal footing.  I’m not trying to pick a fight. I am merely trying to do what is required of me; I am obliged to do under the responsibilities that have been tasked to me as the Minister of Education. I really hope that we don’t get to any point of employing replacement teachers. I really would love to see that people turn up to work on Monday and that they give the government its due opportunity to fix issues.”
