Commissioner of Police Comments on Danny Mason’s Gun Licenses

William "Danny" Mason

The last time we spoke with the Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, he was asked about the case on accused murderer William “Danny” Mason. Whylie’s response was that it was just another murder case. But there is another matter on Mason that keeps popping up.  The accused murderer has told attorneys that he received multiple gun licenses in one day. He alleges that a Cabinet minister took the incomplete applications to his Intelco Hill house, he signed them and by the end of the day, he and his wife were granted the licenses. Now, the Commissioner of Police is the only person authorized to approve the document. So did ComPol Whylie sign off on any of those documents?

Allen Whylie, ComPol

“I don’t think that you are properly quoting what I said. I said I had not read the file. I said it was a murder file like other murder files. I would have to read all the murder files if I were just to select that file. So it wasn’t that I wasn’t updated.”

“Sir you mentioned that you didn’t know a Danny Mason closely, you just heard about him; heard his name mentioned in the business community. Could you talk to us more about that connection cause we understand that he had several gun licenses? We wanted to know if you approved any; if so, how many of his gun licenses?”

“I think those are old things that you are bringing up. I am certain that in my absence it was mentioned that he had some gun licenses that had been approved. Hindsight is always a good thing. I mean Belizeans as well as foreigners are entitled to apply for firearms (license) and if they meet the criteria, it is issued to them. So whether or not Mister Mason was issued—whether it was I signed or I didn’t sign—it’s immaterial. The license can either be approved by myself or in my absence the officer who acts as the Commissioner of Police.”

“But you can’t say right now if you recall actually physically signing those documents because we have a copy of one license issued to Danny Mason which had—several of them—had X’s where a passport number should be. Are you aware of some of those discrepancies in terms of those gun license applications?”

Allen Whylie

“No I am not aware of those discrepancies as you indicated. If you share them with me I can definitely look and comment. I haven’t seen it honestly, but I do know that gun license had been approved to him and his common-law wife.”

  1. Hatari says:

What kind of answer is that? No answer! He or his duputy had to have signed the licenses or they are just totally fake. He’s covering his #$%^& . “Mi no noh.” While the rest of us legal citizens and companies sit in the looonng line to get a license. I have been waiting over two years for a “Company License” and there is no legal or other reason it has not been issued . . . yet it just sits on his desk. Not fair!
