Northside Businesses Contribute Vehicle to Eastern Division North Police

Just at about the same time that Korea was making that donation, the Police Department was also receiving a significant contribution. Four businesses teamed up to provide the department with a brand new vehicle to be deployed in the fight against crime. News Five’s Duane Moody has that report.

Today, the Eastern Division North of the Police Department received a significant donation of a 2017 Great Wall Wingle pickup truck to add to its mobile fleet. The vehicle will be used by Precinct Four of the Belize City Police that operate along the Phillip Goldson Highway from the flag monument to the Haulover Bridge and the communities within the area. The police department lost several vehicles as a result of Hurricane Earl, while responding to calls of assistance and this donation is timely.

“It is very historic in the sense that this is the first vehicle we are about to receive in this manner and I have to say that this is a realization of true community police partnership; this s something that we advocate for. I have to say that my deputy, Mister Grinage deserves a lot of credit as well as was previously said. He is the one who came forward spoke to Mister Torres about the idea. And I have to say thanks Mister Grinage.”

Crime in Belize is a very serious matter and several businesses within the precinct four area – Smart Belize, A & R, Grace Kennedy Belize Limited and Caribbean Motors teamed up with the Government of Belize to make the contribution to the Belize Police Department.

“The safety of our businesses, the safety of our customers, the safety of the residents in the area is a key concern to us and very important. And that is why we are pleased to give our support as we believe that having this vehicle will make the police department more effective and more responsive where crime is concerned. That said, I am honored to be sending over this cheque this morning.”

“When we were approached to partner on this initiative, our finance manager at the time said yes, without even checking with me. But we are happy to partner with you guys, specifically precinct four, for the benefit that we know the community—not only the business houses in the area—will benefit from and we look forward to future partnership.”

According to Emil Torres or Caribbean Motors, there are plans to assist the Belmopan Police Department as well.

“This one is a reality, but we have another dream cooking right now. So I wanted to reach out to the business community in Belmopan to please see if they can assist as well. Let us do our part. Yes we can stand here and complain all day and make excuse—oh government shoulda di do this and shoulda di do that, but we are not making anything political any at all—if we can do it, we should do it.”
