Celebrations Commission Donates for Funeral of Crushed Carnival Reveller

Elodio Aragon Jr.

Deborah Humes died on Friday night after she was crushed by a house that collapsed atop her on Dolphin Street where the Soca Moca Carnival Band was preparing for the road march. Police had predicted her death to us via text hours before it actually happened. At the start of the carnival a moment of silence was observed in her memory and as it turned out Soca Moca went on to win the road march.  The homeowner had complained to NEMO that her house had deteriorated following the passage of Hurricane Earl, but there was no action taken. Today, however, Chair of the Carnival Commission, Elodio Aragon Junior came up with a contribution for the burial of Humes.

Elodio Aragon Jr., Chair, September Celebrations Commission

“It just touch us how tragic this incident was and the impact on the family. And especially the people—the deceased and the family members are all people who are big in the carnival every September. as the September Celebrations Commission Chairperson, it just touch my heart what they are going through especially at the time of September when this supposed to be the month where it is all about joy and happiness for this family and friends of this family. So based on this tragic incident that occurred, we discussed it and said that we will come out and see how we can assist them. I know they have asked NEMO for some assistance, but this is just a part of September Celebrations Commission doing a little to assist them.”
