Family’s 4-Year Ordeal over 2 Bullets Ends

Anthony Sylvestre

Turning to the courts…forty-seven year old Romie Anthony and her two children – twenty-eight year old Amir and eighteen year old Brea – are finally free from jail after charges of possession of unlicensed ammunition for two bullets found in their home in July of 2012 were dismissed. Anthony was formally acquitted today by Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, but she and her attorney Anthony Sylvestre plan to sue authorities for the distress of being incarcerated along with her two children. According to Sylvestre, the court found that the two children had no case to answer, as the court could not find probable cause for the arrest of the teenage girl, then only fourteen, and her older brother.

Anthony Sylvestre, Attorney for Anthony Family

“Suffice it to say what transpired in court this morning, after four long, troubling, agonizing years of back and forth in court, Miss Anthony was acquitted. The learned trial magistrate’s hands would have been tied and so it would have compelled or force Miss Anthony to give evidence, but when Miss Anthony gave evidence, it was made crystal clear that the entire situation was one which she and her daughter ought not to have been pulled into this draconian web which as has been indicated has caused extreme emotional pain. There was a third person…neither her son or daughter were present, but as explained under the provision of that now declared unconstitutional firearms act, all persons who are said to have been ordinary resident at that premises—to have had some ties to the premises—would have been charged even when there would have been no basis in law for the person to have been charged.”
