N.E.M.O. Accused of Delay to Fix Leaning House

Marsha Smith and her family have been living on the Dolphin Street property since 2003 and it is where the mud used for the J’ouvert is cooked…all that has been destroyed just within hours of the J’ouvert. But the house had weakened due to the passage of Hurricane Earl and the family says they had been making appeals for assistance with NEMO. That did not come through, leaving the house to deteriorate further. The tragic event today has left reveler traumatized. Smith’s daughter, Shandy Tillett says this could have been prevented.

Shandy Tillett, Daughter of Homeowner

“I need a lot of help; my ma lost all her household stuff. We went over and over to NEMO; I don’t know if it is because my ma is P.U.P. and they are U.D.P. they don’t want to help us. When we went to NEMO, NEMO told us that they are coming to help us and the thing is in the process. When we went back, they said the money done ready for the house to fix. So when they tell we that; we feel good thinking they are going to come weekend, but they didn’t come. So when they tell we that, we feel good, thinking they’re going to come weekend.”

“Because the lamppost pull the house. The lamppost lean down on the street and pulled the house on a slant. “So she was downstairs doing the mud when this happened?”

Shandy Tillett

“Yes she was doing the mud by there. My daughter helping, my cousin; that little one; my little daughter up there; they were helping my mom straining the mud. All I see my daughter run towards the fence; mom help. Thank god she is safe because I woulda feel bad if my daughter died or anything happened to her.”

Wait up one $%^&*(O minute. I work and pay my taxes-they spend 6-6 playing with costumes and dancing? She already got a house free, now they want GOB nemo to spend my tax dollars to fix their house? why didn’t they take the hundred people playing with costumes and drinking beer on sidewalks all day and some of the money they used to buy material to fix their own house? how communistic is this that they expect me to pay for them while they play, I work? Leave them there and see if they will fix it -how lazy

so they call and tell you the money ready for fix yu house? and you no go for it? you want them to bring it for you and back you ma out the house and fix it for her? anything else you want? a piece of pie while you sit and watch them work?

I really do not understand this way of thinking. Maintain your house so it does not get to this point else fix it when it get like this.

So why does the GOB owe you repairs to your house?
