According to reports to News Five, the getaway vehicle drove on toFreedom Streetand into a police checkpoint near its junction withJabaru Street. The Mitsubishi Montero SUV was reportedly fired upon by officers before it was abandoned a short distance away. Four men, two of them reportedly with firearms in hand, exited the vehicle in an effort to escape, leaving their personal belongings behind. These items have been confiscated by the police and ACP Chester Williams says that they have since detained one person and are looking for at least two others. Interestingly, they are the same persons reportedly linked to the stabbing murder of George McKenzie Junior in late August.

ACP Chester Williams

“I don’t really want to go into the character of the deceased, but the persons who are the suspects at this time, we are pursuing them and they are the same persons who were the suspects in the stabbing at the ITVET during the so call fest that they had at the ITVET. So we are pursuing them at this time; we have one of them in custody already. The vehicle we know who it belongs to. There are certain things that were found in the vehicle that will lead us to other persons who may be involved and we are pursuing them at this time.”

All four men are no strangers to the law. Two are siblings who were accused in a 2015 robbery, but were charged only for firearm offenses when a gun was found in their possession. Another was charged for an attempted murder and the fourth is facing robbery charges.
