Belize Territorial Volunteers Host First Ever Eco-Challenge Race to Sarstoon Island

The Belize Territorial Volunteers have announced the first-ever Sarstoon Island Eco-Challenge event for Saturday, September seventeenth. The expedition leaves from Barranco village pier to race to Sarstoon Island and back. Participants can race in any of three categories – kayak, canoe and dory. First prize is one thousand dollars; second prize, five hundred dollars and prizes will also be available for third through fifth places. Following the race, a “peace concert” will be organized in Barranco village. The Eco-Challenge doubles as the Volunteers’ first organized event in the area since they were stopped from even entering the river at the end of April due to hastily enforced regulations specifically aimed at stopping their expedition.
