Shootings Reported on North and Southside Following Murder

There were two other shootings overnight; the first exactly one hour after the execution of Zuniga. Around seven-thirty p.m., shots rang out on Racecourse Street in Belize City. Another youth, twenty-one-year-old Adrian Dyer, a resident of George Street, was shot multiple times to the thighs by two men on a motorcycle. The gunmen rode up to him as he socialized at a house on Racecourse Street and opened fire. Dyer is presently listed in a critical but stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. ACP Chester Williams explains.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“One Adrian Dyer was on racecourse Street, Belize City when a motorcycle carrying two persons passed the location where he was and several shots were fired at him, some of which made their mark to his leg. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he is currently admitted. Last night he went into a state of shock due to the fact that he had lost too much blood. But the latest prognosis we got was that his conditions were improving. So we are hoping that Mister Dyer would recover from his injuries. This incident on Racecourse Street, we have a basic idea who are those persons responsible and we are pursuing them at this time.”

“Sir, a motive for this shooting?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Again, we think that the shooting is also gang-related.”

Duane Moody

“Is it related to the murder?”

ACP Chester Williams

“No, it has no collection to the shooting that took place in the St Martin’s area.”

The other shooting took place on north side Belize City just after eleven p.m. at the Corner of New Road and Victoria Street. Nineteen-year-old John Orozco was shot to the right forearm in proximity to his house on New Road. According to the teenager, he was pushing his bicycle contrary to the flow of traffic on New Road and when he reached New Road Supermarket, he heard loud bangs and later realized that he had been shot. He is in a stable condition at the hospital.
