Prime Minister Plans to Look into Dorian Pakeman Case

Dean Barrow

This afternoon, Prime Minister Dean Barrow reacted to the news, stating that once he has looked into the matter, action will be taken if appropriate.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I certainly have…I’ve heard about it and I certainly have to look into that. I don’t know enough at this juncture, but that is a very serious disclosure and I certainly have to look at that.”

“Sir, would you support that action be taken against…”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“But can I…lord man. It is a serious disclosure and if it is true, it raises very problematic issues for Mister Pakeman and for government. Can I leave it at that until I’ve had a chance…? Look, we’ve been talking about natural justice. I have to hear from the man, I have to see what the evidence is, but for sure it is not something that will be ignored and not dealt with.”

Pakeman remains under notice of intended prosecution but continues in his capacity with the Government. He issued a statement via social media which reads as follows: “I am aware of certain allegations made against me and I want to categorically deny any such thing which was put in the public domain. I was involved in an unfortunate accident and cooperated at the scene, willingly volunteering a specimen. The matter is before the court and I will have my day, when I am sure I will be vindicated by the legal system. Until then, I will continue to vigorously defend my professional reputation.” We also have queried the matter with the Office of the D.P.P. In the aftermath of the accident, Pakeman insisted that Dawson, who was riding his bicycle going north on the Philip Goldson Highway toward Crooked Tree, swerved into his lane as he was coming in the opposite direction toward Ladyville. He said he tried to swerve left to avoid Dawson but still caught him; Dawson died on impact.
