Murder in Sandhill; Motive Unknown

Tyrone Davis

Police have very limited leads to go on in the Saturday afternoon murder of a Sandhill resident. While the end came quickly for victim Tyrone Davis, answers as to who killed him and why will be harder to find. Davis was known to the law and had faced charges of aggravated burglary and later, firearm possession. But it appears he was trying to change his life, or at least live under the radar, when death visited him on Saturday afternoon at the house where he was staying in the village. This statement by Regional Commander for the Rural Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner Edward Broaster, is as much as police have to go on at this time.

“On Saturday the third, Rural Eastern Division received reports of a death in the Sandhill area, where police visited Mile twenty, and found the lifeless body of one Tyrone Davis, thirty years, of the said village, suffering from gunshot wounds to the throat and arm. Investigation revealed that he was hanging out under his house in a hammock when a gunman came, or emerged from the bushes and fired the fatal shots that caused his death. So far we have one person of interest in custody, and we are interviewing that individual to ascertain what exactly transpired and caused the death of Mister Davis.”

According to police, the person of interest in their custody is a teenager, only nineteen years of age. The alleged murder weapon is a twelve-gauge shotgun, of which an expended cartridge was recovered from the scene. Family members we met in Sand Hill today declined to speak on camera, but they recalled Davis as mostly living a quiet life and seeking to stay out of further trouble. But they too are baffled as to who wanted Davis dead, and more importantly, why. Despite the sudden nature of Davis’ death, they have no interest in further trouble or retaliation for what happened. Davis is survived by relatives in the United States and in Roaring Creek, Cayo District.
