The driver faces charges of obstruction, assault of a police officer and disorderly conduct. Senior Superintendent Dawson explained that apart from transport issues, the police were mostly interested in restoring order to traffic in the busy area and he believes the situation could possibly have been handled differently.

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson, Dep. Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“I did not get to the root of the cause, and that was not my interest this morning; my interest was to have the traffic flow smoothly.”

“Is the bus company going to face any penalties?

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson

“Not at this time, we have nothing for the bus company at this time.”

“In terms of exercising one’s right to protest a decision, or whatever the case may be, should this have been handled differently by the company and the drivers?”

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson:

“Well, I don’t know what was their intent. If you want to conduct a peaceful protest, then you should apply for a permit to do so.”

We tried to reach Commissioner of Transport Tirso Galvez for comment at his Belmopan office but we were told he was out at a meeting.

Tirso still have all those flashing lights on busses blinding other drivers? I stills ee them stopping all in middle of highways and blocking traffic. Thats what these belize bus drivers are good at-they know how to block the reflow of traffic with their stupid protest, or if they are in their busses, they stop anywhere and the rest of Belize must wait until they are ready
