More Than 300 Families will receive cash transfer

While the donations will be paid out using a cash transfer system, the focus at the moment continues to be areas hardest hit by Hurricane Earl, including the Vista Del Mar community.

“We have been focusing on the Ladyville area and its environs and we have already assessed some six hundred and forty plus families up to Saturday.  My team just left, as you saw them a while ago, to continue assessments in the Vista del Mar [area], we call it Vista del Mar Part Two, but it’s really part of Ladyville as well.  So we are aiming to help so far, with the assessments of today, at least three hundred and thirty-five families.  We have been carrying out assessments and then the next day carrying out our distribution, but our focus is on the cash transfer program which allows the families to really put money into their most needed relief that they need at the time.  We have had indication from a lot of them, the majority of the families, that the money will be used for replacing their household items, repairing their roofs, buying schoolbooks and also some of them [will go] into food and their necessities.”

Since the natural disaster earlier this month, the Belize Red Cross has received significant donation from several companies, including B.T.L.
