Wednesday Night Fire Leaves Ladyville Churchgoer Homeless
Fifty-year-old Cherry Martinez lost everything in a fire on Wednesday night in Ladyville. Martinez reported to police that she left her home on Myrtle Wade Street in the Japan area to attend a church service in the village. That was around seven-thirty. She was subsequently notified of the fire sometime after ten p.m. By that time the concrete bungalow that she was renting had been completely engulfed in flames. Despite an effort to extinguish the fire, nothing in the building could have been saved. News Five visited Ladyville today and spoke with Assistant Commissioner of Police Edward Broaster.
ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division
“Last night around ten-twenty-eight p.m., we received information of a fire at number sixty-two Myrtle Waight Crescent in the Japan area of Ladyville. The police responded and saw a bungalow cement house, thirty by twenty, engulfed in flames. The house at the time was occupied by one Cherry Martinez; the owner of the house is away. According to Miss Martinez, she secured her house at around seven p.m., left the living room light on and went to church. When she returned, she saw her house engulfed in fire.”

“Did she mention loss of all her items? Was this an area of the property that was engulfed in flames? Can you describe to us if the property was insured as well?”
ACP Edward Broaster
“I don’t have any information regarding whether it is insured or not. She said she did loss household items in the fire. No one was at home at the time of the fire.”
There is no word whether the property was insured. We are told however, that the landlord is presently out of the country.
