NEMO Plans to Restore Houses for Families Still in Shelters
Earl hit the City hard and long on Wednesday leaving many without roofs over their heads. Many families are still in shelters and have nowhere to go so NEMO has a plan to deal with the restoration of houses to get victims back on their feet.
Phillip Willoughby, CEMO
“As we’ve stated in our discussions, we look to seek the people with minimal damages to deal with those first. Those damaged homes where you say roofs have been completely destroyed, sidings have been loss; those assessments will be done by the contractor in detail and if it deems that the entire structure has been compromised, you won’t just go there and displace another family. What would happen in a few days time, after the assessment; one; that house will have to be demolished if it has been completely compromised. The property would have to be cleaned as Minister Martinez advised and his instructions were. The yard itself has to be able to hold up the structure, the home that will be built—if it is a replacement home. That process and that program will not jump off and kick off immediately until after the house has been demolished, taken away the yard look at and then the reconstruction phase of those types of homes will come about.”
