Murder Trial Concludes in the Case of Alleged Killer Curtis Lamb

Curtis Lamb

A trial by judge without jury concluded on Wednesday before Justice Troadio Gonzalez in the Belize City Supreme Court against twenty-two year old Curtis Lamb. The Belize City youth was seventeen years old when he was arrested on August 2011 for the murder of Justin Roaches. Roaches was shot and killed while socializing at the Gwen Lizarraga High School Basketball court.  Lamb’s trial began three weeks ago and Judge Gonzalez heard closing arguments from both sides. The crown was represented by Sheneiza Smith and the accused by Attorney Anthony Sylvester. Roaches was shot three times to the body and according to the crowns’ evidence, he was not the intended target.  In the trial, evidence unfolded that on the day of the fatal shooting, Lamb and another male got into a misunderstanding at the basketball court; that situation escalated into a fight and as a result, Lamb was badly beaten.   Lamb left the basketball court and later returned with a gun and opened fire in the direction of a group of persons including Roaches.   Prior to the trial, a void dire was held to determine the admissibility of the caution statement given by Lamb in which he admitted killing Roaches. But Lamb later told the court he was beaten badly by police to admit to the crime.  Judge Gonzalez was convinced that Lamb gave the statement willingly so it was admitted into evidence.
