“Wizz” Faces Murder Charge

Luis Carter

Twenty-three year old Luis Carter is now facing a murder charge for the killing of Dwayne Hyde, who succumbed to his injuries weeks after being shot on San Pedro. Carter, who is also known as “Wizz”, was originally charged and arraigned on Friday, July fifteenth, 2016 before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser for attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm upon Hyde and for aggravated assault upon Kimberly Humes, Hyde’s common-law wife.  Carter was denied bail when he took his case to the Supreme Court today and his application had to be withdrawn in light of the death of Hyde a few days ago.   Prosecutor Rene Montero informed the court that charges against Carter were being upgraded to murder, but Carter’s attorney, Anthony Sylvester, still wanted the bail application to be heard. But Judge Troadio Gonzalez maintained that he did not believe the prosecutor would present false information and with that said, the application did not proceed. After midnight on July thirteenth, Hyde was shot to the abdomen, allegedly by one of three men who followed him to his house in the D.F.C. area on the island.  According to a report given to police by Hyde’s common-law-wife, she heard a knock at their front door and when she opened it, Hyde told her that his life was under threat. He was being pursued by three men who entered his yard and after a brief confrontation, Hyde was shot to the abdomen.  According to the report given to police, Hyde identified Wizz as his attacker and the person who inflicted the stab wounds to the neck, mouth and abdomen.
