Senator Carla Barnett Sworn-in As Minister of State

Carla Barnett

The newest member of cabinet took the oath of office this morning. Following the passage of Hurricane Earl, the Prime Minister announced the appointment of Senator Carla Barnett as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance. Barnett is tasked to coordinate relief assistance for the recovery process of the hurricane.  Her swearing-in was at Belize House in Belmopan where Governor General Colville Young administered the oath.

Dr. Carla Barnett, Minister of State, Finance

“I Carla Barnett do swear that I will bear due faith and allegiance to Belize and will uphold the constitution and the law and that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability, discharge my duties as minister of state and do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill-will so help me God. I’ve been asked to perform in a position that is really important at this time; and my hope, my expectation; my commitment is to do the best that I can along with the full team in Cabinet to ensure that we do what needs to be done at this time. So thank you all for coming.”

Doctor Barnett is the third unelected minister to be brought into government through the senate joining Ministers Godwin Hulse and Vanessa Retreage, both who have been given responsibility for powerful ministries.
