Lord’s Bank Resident Arraigned for Aggravated Burglary
The courts closed today in the city as Hurricane Earl approached Belize. Late on Tuesday, twenty-three year old Lord’s Bank resident, Japheth Steadman Gordon, was placed on remand after his arraignment in the Magistrate’s Court for the offenses of aggravated burglary and indecent assault upon a twenty-five year old woman. Allegations are that on June fifteenth, 2016, he trespassed the woman’s house in Lord’s Bank armed with a knife and stole eighty dollars in cash. He is also accused of caressing the homeowner while she slept. Gordon pleaded not guilty to the charge; the prosecutor objected to bail due to the prevalence of the crime and Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith denied him bail. Gordon was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October eleventh, 2016. The victim told the police she woke up when she felt she was being touched all over her body. She also realized that cash was missing from her house. She was able to identify Gordon as the trespasser.
