Keeping Homes Safe While Residents Seek Shelter in Ladyville

Juanito Cocom

Earlier today, we also checked in to find out what is happening in Belize Rural where the communities are spread out in the wide expanse. Police plan to keep an eye on the more than thirty villages in the Belize Rural District.  As residents leave their homes for higher ground and shelter, it leaves the houses, although secure, unattended which means that burglars will make most of that opportunity. But Assistant Superintendent Juanito Cocom of the Ladyville Police says that they have a strategy in place to prevent the crimes.

“We have neighborhood watches in several areas and they are communicating to us when people are leaving their homes so based on that, we are doing patrols. We are doing a lot of mobile patrols in these areas.”

“How will you guys deal with the deployment of your human resources in terms of some of these areas are hotspots and they are prone to crime. And especially in times like these when the police department may be a bit vulnerable because of human resources—I am talking specifically about Mahogany Heights and other hotspot areas. How will the actual deployment of your human resources be done?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“As it is, we have everything in full force right now so we have the whole detachment on standby. So we have in terms of human resources, we have lot of personnel right now and we have a lot of contacts with the community as well.  The community, whatever they see, they will notify us and based on that we will respond.”
