Costa Maya: Will It Be Held this Weekend Despite Inclement Weather?

Gregory Vernon

One event that is being affected by Tropical Storm Earl is the annual Costa Maya Festival being held in San Pedro this weekend. The organization issued a statement late this evening to announce changes in the program of events. The Reina de la Costa Maya International Pageant, which was set for Thursday, August fourth, has been moved to Sunday, August seventh. All the other events will remain as planned. Organizer Greg Vernon explains.

“The Costa Maya Festival Committee met last night and this afternoon and were in communication with NEMO to make sure that we go through a safe festival. In working closely with NEMO we have decided that we will be pushing the festival one day later which is Friday, which will be the same—the opening ceremony as well as the Caribbean night. And we will be doing Saturday, which is the international night and moving the pageant, the Miss Costa Maya International Pageant from Thursday to Sunday. So in wrapping up, we are saying that we will be doing our festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday given that Tropical Storm Earl will remain with the same speed that it is coming in. If it slows down, then we have to meet again to decided exactly what we will be doing with the festival.”

So stay tuned for more on Earl beginning on OYE and for periodic reporting throughout Wednesday.
