Cabinet Reshuffle: Saldivar Gone as Minister of Police!

John Saldivar

On Friday, on his return from the U.S., Prime Minister Dean Barrow stated clearly that he had not reached the point where he would move on Minister John Saldivar as a consequence of his relationship with accused murderer William Mason. But today he did. The reports of a reshuffle started circulating last night, and grew wings with word of a special cabinet meeting this morning. By midday, G.O.B. had issued a release confirming a shifting of portfolios. In a nutshell, the Ministry of National Security will be divided up into two – a standalone Ministry of Police and a Ministry of Defense. Senator Minister Godwin Hulse will take over the Police Ministry in addition to Immigration, while Saldivar will retain the Defense Ministry – control over the B.D.F. and Coast Guard. Hulse will relinquish the Ministry of Natural Resources to Attorney General Vanessa Retreage. Today, PM Barrow says he met with Minister John Saldivar just this morning after making the decision over the weekend.

“I said on Friday that at that juncture I was not prepared to move because optics aside, I did not think that anything that Minister Saldivar did mounted to criminality or corruption. He was perhaps conned into this acquaintanceship/friendship with this individual in the same way that many others including some additional ministers were. Nothing since Friday has occurred to make me depart from that point of view. But as was made clear in the question and answer session that we had on Friday, the optics also include the fact that—while I’ve not run a poll and while I don’t have any scientific evidence for saying this—the optics make clear that the public perception is that it is untenable for Minister Saldivar to continue to head the police ministry in the current circumstances where although Mister Mason, or whatever name he currently goes by, has already been arraigned, charged for murder and kidnapping. His wife is still at large. So there is clearly an ongoing investigation and the relationship between Minister Saldivar and Mister Mason up until the point it was terminated—whenever that point was—that relationship was such as to make the public and indeed myself and other members of cabinet uncomfortable with a situation where seeds of mistrust might not only been sewn; in fact, they have already been planted. But where the appearances are such as to oblige almost the public to at the very least question strongly that particular configuration, where Minister John Saldivar and what was seen up until today as his police department are in fact advancing the investigation.”

So all he did was shuffle the cards again. Saldivar should have be removed from all of it not just the police department. He has no expertise or experience for the ministries he has held. He is just another corrupt politician. How many ministers actually have the professional knowledge and experience to run the ministries they preside over? Name one? What a friggin’ joke! No wonder our country is in the deplorable state that it is in!

This guy is a crook and he’s a dangerous man. He need to be brought down and prosecuted but the sad part is that he’s not the only one. He makes McAfee look like a choir boy. I guess McAfee wasn’t lying when he tried to expose all the crooks in Belize. Prime Minister get it together. Everyone is looking at us.

You guys had better not let Mason get away with murder. The world is watching! Prosecute him let him serve time under the damn jail. The guy is heartless, he’s crooked and he’s a murderer who deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law. Don’t allow his money to bail him out because all of it is blood money. He’s an extortionist. Damn shame we allow low life people like this in our country. And to Mr. Panton, Why would you even agree to take this case knowing your client is piss ass guilty? You’re only doing it for the money. Your greed overrides your integrity! Belize, send this Mason scoundrel packing! Shame on you!
