Is Godwin Hulse Effective at Putting Out G.O.B.’s Many Fires?

Godwin Hulse

Senator Minister Godwin Hulse seems to have become, in the PM’s words, Government’s firefighter – first in Immigration, then Natural Resources and now the Police. But has he really been outing those fires or just blowing smoke to cloud the corruption.

“Sir if I could be completely frank without being disrespectful. You basically led the immigration investigation, so to speak, in your position there. There were multiple promises that everything will be brought to light and the public would see everything. We never did. Nothing ever came out and at the very end of it, it seemed that it was more of a cover up than anything and that there were so many damning information to government that it was decided that this thing should just be pushed under a rug. We have spoken to you before where you have stated that in cabinet you are part of a team, so you have to be a team player. In terms of the police investigation, I am certain that there are things which, I am sure will come out, which may be damaging to the government. Will you then be prepared to bring this to the public rather than being a team player and perhaps just covering it up so that the government stands?”

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Police

“Let me dispute categorically your premise for the question. I did not lead the immigration investigation. I did not cover up. What we did was frank and clear. We got the information that we got, we passed it on to the police at the time. I think it was COLA or somebody who got the police to proceed. The data was passed on to the Public Service Commission, people were brought before the Commission, the Commission rejected it and sent them back. There was a lot of back and forth; documents were at the D.P.P. and all sorts of things. The evidence as I had it at the time stood and still stands. There was absolutely no cover up; in fact, I can tell you and I will repeat had I not taken that to the cabinet there would have been no Minister Penner issue and nobody would have known at all. Minister Penner would have continued as normal. Lots of other cases perhaps happened which were never brought up so I want to debunk that to start with. But to answer the second part of the question, a team player doesn’t mean that I am going to do any cover up. I have said that time and time again. If I ever find, I am going to bring it out there and make the chips drop where they may.”
