A Honduran National is Chopped to Death in Hattieville

A Honduran national was murdered on Saturday afternoon at Mile fourteen on the George Price Highway. The victim, Geovanni Rosales, was chopped on the arm, shoulder and neck and had no chance of survival. A machete which was recovered at the scene of the crime is believed to be the murder weapon. Rosales was hanging out with co-workers when violence broke and he was soon dead. A Guatemalan national has been detained, but he is claiming self-defense. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

At about four-fifty p.m. on Saturday, a Honduran national was fatally chopped by his coworker at their worksite in the Tropical Park community at mile fourteen on the George Price Highway. Just before five o’clock that evening, police responded to a report of a fight, but when they arrived, found the body of forty year old Geovanni Rosales behind an incomplete fence; he had chop wounds to his arm, shoulder and his head was almost decapitated.

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division

“Hattieville police responded to a report of a fight at mile fourteen on the George Price Highway. Upon arrival at the location, they found one Geovanni Armando Rosales, forty-four year old Honduran national who resides at number fourteen and half miles on the George Price Highway with a large chop wound to the back of his neck, one on his shoulder and one on his right arm. BERT Ambulance responded where they pronounced Mister Rosales deceased. So far the investigation has revealed that Mister Rosales was socializing with fellow coworkers when a conflict transpired which resulted in his death.”

A Guatemalan national, who is also a construction worker, has since been detained. That detainee has given a caution statement in which he is claiming self-defense. According to the accused, Rosales charged at him with a knife and he picked up a machete and chopped him three times, fatally injuring him.

ACP Edward Broaster

“We have recovered a machete with which apparently has on substance we believe to be blood and we believe that that was the weapon that was used in this incident.”

Reporter

“Can you share a bit about the self-defense statement? Was he approached? Was there an assault on his life? How did it arrive at self-defense?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“He claimed that Mister Rosales came at him with a knife. “

Reporter

“Has the knife been recovered from the scene?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“No.”

But it is believed that there is a second suspect in the chopping death of Rosales.

ACP Edward Broaster

“Well based on the evidence that we have gathered so far and present to the Director of Public Prosecution, we will be awaiting her guidance as to if and what charges are to be laid on the individual.”

Duane Moody

Sir, so there was a second person involved? There were three persons.”

ACP Edward Broaster

“There is allegation that a third person was there. The investigation…”

Duane Moody

“Also a coworker?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“Right. The investigators at this time have not confirmed this to be so, but we are investigating that matter.”
