Police Recover Weapon Allegedly Used in Burrell Boom Robbery

A firearm that is prohibited in Belize was discovered by police in the village of Burrell Boom, Belize District. Last week Friday, officers attached to the Boom precinct confiscated the illegal weapon, which it is believed was used to commit a robbery in that community in early July. ACP Broaster told the media that one person has been detained in connection with the gun.

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division

“On Friday, the Burrell Boom Police confiscated a point four-five pistol in the Burrell Boom Village area, one person was arrested. I am not sure if he has been charged yet. But if he has been charged we will give you the name in a few.”

Duane Moody

“Sir in terms of that gun, if I am not mistaken, that gun is prohibited in Belize.”

ACP Edward Broaster

“Yes it is.”

Duane Moody

“Any information on how it got into the country? Who is this person that has been detained in reference to this? It is believed that the gun was used in the committal of a crime?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“We suspect that the forty-five pistol was used in the commission of a robbery early in last month in the Burrell Boom area. But like I said, I will give you further details when I get them.”

Duane Moody

“So that person that has been detained will be charged for that robbery as well?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“Once we have the evidence to prove it, yes.”
