No Real Update in May 1st Double Murder in Camalote

On May first good friends Akeem Thimbriel and Shawn Lopez were gunned down in Camalote in brutal, brazen fashion. The murders shocked and angered the community which immediately pointed fingers at persons they believed to be responsible. Those persons from Camalote, a couple, were immediately picked up by Police, along with one other person and the weapon believed used in the crime was also seized. But it’s been more than two months now and those persons were released long ago without charges. So what exactly is the status of the investigation? And what’s the holdup? That’s the question that Irvin Thimbriel, the father of one of the slain youth, has for the Police.

“They have given us some indication that they have some information already, but that has been for the past five weeks or so. And so we are asking how, with everything you’ve said you have ready, why is it taking so long then to have an arrest. There are many persons in the community who saw things and they’re waiting and hoping that the Police are going to crack this case. They are getting frustrated now because they feel like though this thing was done in such a brazen manner – these guys did not hide – as a matter of fact their entrance into the community was one that would almost cause an accident. There are people who know, people who saw things. When you go to the area where the incident happened you will see that people live right around there. That’s what people are saying – how come with all that information that you have, how come you have not closed this case as yet?”

“I understand how they feel. They want the investigation to carry through very swiftly and arrests to be made. But that’s not the way how an investigation is done. It’s a sophisticated investigation, or a complex one so to speak. We’ve sent that file for legal interpretation and there were some instructions that were given. My knowledge of it of recent, this past week, is that there are three things that the interpretation from our attorney had asked for, and two of those three have been dealt with and one more is forthcoming. After that we will send back the file and get further legal instructions. But I believe when we are done with that third one we will be able to proffer a charge or some charges against one or more individuals. I don’t believe it will be that complicated to have them brought back into custody. These individuals are known to us and if we have to get them back I don’t think it will be something that difficult to do. I can’t mention their names now because they haven’t been charged, but the support that we get from the community I am sure we will be able to have them returned into our custody when the need so arises.”
