Ambassador Ho Says Donation is Symbol of Good Relationship

The cultural exchanges and this donation is testament of the strong relations between the governments of Belize and Taiwan and extend beyond education and agricultural initiatives. Ambassador Benjamin Ho says that it is the eight such contribution to NICH for the September Celebrations.

Benjamin Ho, Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize

“This donation is all about sharing because we are good friends and when you are celebrating your Independence Day, we want to share in your joy.  Besides, this is also a cultural sharing because your celebration is a most important event that highlights your showcase of culture, the pageant, the carnival and also the Pan Yaad; that’s the highlight of your culture and we want to share with your wonderful people on this culture. Actually, the Pantempters have been invited to Taiwan twice to perform in Taiwan; they are eye openers to Taiwanese, they are so popular with Taiwanese. We appreciate that.”

“You guys are always anxious for the September celebrations here.”

Benjamin Ho

“Yes, we are looking forward to that. I never miss that; since I got here, I enjoy treating myself with Belizean friends.”

Diane Haylock, President, NICH

“One of the things that I have always greatly appreciate since I took over the job is the respect that Taiwan pays to culture as part of their overall development agenda and I think that their contribution to what we are trying to do here is an indication of the importance that they place on culture. We tend to normally hear more about the agricultural mission and these other things. But to my mind, my understanding of their policies over the year, culture is an important pillar in their national development endeavors and I think in that way then, I think maybe they find it easier to lend support to the national celebrations in Belize.”
