How Ready Is Team Belize for CODICADER Games?

The opening ceremony for CODICADER 2016 will be held at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex on Thursday evening and is being organized by the National Institute of Culture and History.  Representatives, as well as other members of the respective national teams began arriving in the country on Monday, ahead of the launch of the games.

Ritchel Dominguez, Director, National Sports Council

“Due to the airlines that are limited on space, some of the teams have started sending different contingents of their teams to Belize.  Yesterday we had one.  At this time we have the delegates coming in who are the heads of mission.  They are coming in; they should be in the city already.  They are excited and the countries are ready to go.”

Isani Cayetano

“Now the opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday.  I know there’s going to be much fanfare with regards to Belize hosting and of course some of the supporters of these individual teams and athletes.  What can we expect from this opening ceremony, [in terms of] cultural presentations and what have you?”

Ritchel Dominguez

“Yes.  What happened is that we have asked NICH to do the opening ceremony for us.  This evening we will do a walk-through with them at one.  I know it’s the steel band playing and it’s different activities they are having.  It won’t be long; it will only last about an hour and a half to two hours because of the span of the children.  Remember it’s children from six to eleven-years-old so we are not keeping them out too long.  I think it will be fun for Belizeans to know that we are hosting this here.”

“I understand you already have a roster for who will be representing Belize at these games.”

Ritchel Dominguez

“Yes, all rosters have been handed in yesterday.  Yesterday was the deadline for every country to send in their rosters and we vet them.  What will happen this evening is that we are going to share different rosters with different countries.  Belize is going to check Salvador, Salvador is going to check Honduras and this is going to be happening this afternoon.  I know we are going to be up late this evening to vet them but we are ready and willing to go.”
