Elario Elijio is Acquitted of Manslaughter Charge

Elario Elijio

Today, thirty-eight-year-old Elario Elijio walked out of Supreme Court a free man after four years on remand for the death of John Myers in 2012. Elijio and Myers were drinking together on Mahogany Street when Elijio allegedly punched Myers in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. The prosecution was forced to close its case when the main witness, Pastor Ashley Rocke, recanted his 2012 statement in which he said that he saw the altercation and saw when Elijio hit Myers. In addition, the prosecution was unable to get medical examiner Mario Estradabran into court to testify as to the cause of death. With those hurdles facing the prosecution, attorney Alifa Elrington made a no case submission which was upheld by Supreme Court Judge Troadio Gonzalez. After four years behind bars, Elijio is tonight a free man.
