ComPol Allen Whylie Says He Authorized the Operation

Marco Vidal

Still not revealing anything, Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie explained that he is satisfied that the investigation, search and seizure were conducted within the parameters of the law. That will be a matter for the Court to decide, since the Commissioner says he has already gotten a letter from an attorney representing the Ahmad family.

Marco Vidal, Head, Special Branch

“I had not given any comments to the media before and perhaps I would not have been any comment if the allegations were ever made. So we are here to refute the allegations to whatever level we can at this forum.”

“But on what basis? You are refuting on what basis?”

Marco Vidal

“On what they have said.”

“They have made a number of allegations. Have they not?”

“Their allegation is that they were detained for no reason; that their materials were confiscated from them for no reason. You are not telling us at this point that you have arrested or charge, your investigation has gone to another level. You are simply telling us, trust our source. Trust us that we trust our source. At least that’s where I am at the present.”

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“I understand what you are saying, but as Mister Vidal indicated, it’s a sensitive matter. We are certain that the family may be taking legal action and so we don’t want to put our cards out there as you’d want us to because it is of a sensitive nature. I can tell you that I’ve received a letter from their attorney, so I would say that much. But I am satisfied that the operation as legal, legitimate; items were retrieved as the family indicated. And those items, we are through with them and the family was contacted today to come in and pick up their items. Whether or not they have done so, I am not certain.”

We’ll have much more from the briefing in Tuesday’s newscast.
