Katy Sealy and Brandon Jones to Represent the Jewel at Rio
Track and Field athletes Katy Sealy and Brandon Jones will represent Belize at the Olympics 2016 in Rio. As we told you in Tuesday’s newscast, twenty-two athletes competed over the weekend at the seventeenth Central American Championships in El Salvador and Belize’s performance was exceptional. Today News Five learnt that athletes are already preparing for the Olympic Games.

“This is something that has been done long time ago. We had a long list to send in to Rio and then from there, they asked us to make the short list. Because we don’t have any athletes that qualify for the Olympics, you have two merits or two what they call wild cards…a male and a female. So the Belize Athletic Association, based on performance over the years, has selection male Brandon Jones and female Katy Sealy to represent Belize at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.”

“Sir what determined their selection?”

“Their performance over the period of years, we look at their progression, we look at the events that they have mastered…in our case because they are gold medalists and their performance have continued to progress and with that the executive committee said we believe that these are the two people that can best represent us.”

“Now you went out, you broke records at the games. What is your anticipation for the Olympics and seeing the hard work that you’ll need to put in for then?”
Katy Sealy
“Well the Olympics is going to be different for me because I am not going to be in the hepthaphlon; and obviously the hepthaphlon is my event and that’s what I work on. But for the Olympics, I will only be in the one event so it is going to be different for me because I will be concentrating on the one event. Probably won’t be as strong for me because I like to do them all, but I’ll go out there nad run my best and see what I could do.”
