922: Fen tips, plenty of booty calls

And speaking of 922, today was the day, as promised, that the Crimestoppers hotline for anonymous tips to police was rerouted to Miami. The idea of having the calls answered in Florida and the information then passed to Belize is to ensure the anonymity of those calling in with tips, in that their voices could not be recognized by a U.S. operator. Well, on its first day of operation the 922-tip line was a massive quantitative success, with seventy-five calls received at the Dade County office. The only problem, however, was that only one call represented a genuine tip. And the remaining seventy-four? They were all personal calls in which the caller asked to speak to various police officers at the Belize City station. The 922 calls are free to the caller, you see, so calling your sweetheart on the hotline saved a good bit of change. That whap can’t work any more, however, and viewers are reminded that unless you have a friend in the Miami Police Department, calling 922 won’t hook you up. For those with legitimate tips to help solve crimes, however, the 922 Crimestoppers system does work. Your call will be anonymous and you will receive a significant reward if your tip leads to an arrest.
