P.U.P. Will Not Participate in Washington Talks

John Briceño

Is the P.U.P. reacting to government’s decision to call them off from the O.A.S. delegation? Well, Briceño says there can be nothing farther from the truth. He told the media this afternoon that its representative will not participate in the Washington trip because the party has been disrespected. Briceño also says that the P.U.P. the government is going the wrong way and that the P.U.P. will defend every inch of the country. He said that in moving forward, the P.U.P. is focusing on coordination, partnership and internationalization.

John Briceño, Party Leader, P.U.P.

“What I have decided is that I am going to be meeting with our team of former foreign ministers for us to discuss on the way forward.  We’re going to have a national executive meeting on Wednesday.  We are going to present our recommendations to the national executive and then we are going to take it from there.”

“However sir, wouldn’t the Belizeans be best served if you just did your job rather than just staying here like everybody else and the shout up and shout up, do your job and not feel hurt because I get the impression that the opposition is hurt at the treatment by the government of Belize at the un-invitation to the O.A.S. General Assembly and ih look like unu get unu feelings hurt and unu seh well we noh wahn tek part eena dat.  Man yoh have wahn job fi du.”

John Briceño

“Come on Jules, you’re suppose to know me better than that.  Ih tek wahn lot fi mek I get hurted fi something as simple as a trip going to the Dominican Republic.  So mek wi mek that very, very clear.  We want to make a statement to the government that we are prepared to work with them but they also need to treat us with respect.  We treat them with respect and I expect you to respect us.  Now if you don’t want to listen and you are taking us [down] the wrong road, you want us to be there on that road so then afterwards you, Jules Vasquez, along with others wahn turn around and seh sih, P.U.P. and U.D.P. dah di same thing.  We are not going to stand by that.  We are going to stand up and defend and protect every single inch of this country and if it means that we have to break away from the government because we believe that they are going the wrong way then we are going to do that.”
