Cassian Young is Remanded for Robbery

Cassian Young

Tonight, twenty-seven year old Cassian Young of Mosul Street, Belize City is on remand at the Belize Central Prison for a robbery which occurred on June eleventh. His attorney, Herbert Panton argued in court that there is no evidence against Young and that it is unjust to charge him for the crime which took place with the use of a firearm.  The victim, Security Guard Kareem Yasin Hafiya, reported to police that he was walking on Regent Street West when he was approached by two persons who ambushed and robbed him of his cell phone and wallet containing bank cards and identification cards as well as two thousand eight hundred and eight hundred dollars. Both men then fled the area.  Police later responded to the robbery and met Lockart Bevans, who identified Young as the suspect, but Hafiya never saw who robbed him. Prosecutor Corporal Kennard Clark submitted that all the factors and issues that Panton raised are matters that should be addressed in trial.  Panton’s attempts to dissuade Magistrate Deborah Rogers were futile and Young was arraigned for robbery. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August thirty-first, 2016.
