P.U.P. Leader Weighs-in On Brazen Shooting Near Police Station

John Briceño

The daring attempt on the life of Brandon Tillett this morning on Queen Street happened less than a stone’s throw away from Independence Hall, the headquarters of the People’s United Party.  Party Leader John Briceño was in office today and while it is not clear whether he was there at the time of the shooting, he condemned the senseless act committed by a minor.  He says that young men are willing to take up arms simply because they believe they will not be caught or convicted.

John Briceño, Party Leader, P.U.P.

“It’s a sad state of affairs and whilst I don’t know all the details at this time, it is a sad state of affairs when we have our young people to be bold enough to say that I am going to go in front of the police station and shoot somebody and expect to get away with it.  We have been saying it from the first time that I was leader of the party and I want to repeat it again and soon we are going to be giving our views on the issue of security in the country, is that we’ve been saying it from the beginning and some time now that not only the police needs help, even the prosecution, the investigative team, all of them we need to strengthen them, we need to have more people, we need to have more equipment.  Because what has happened is that too many of our young men in this country believe that, you know what, I gah wahn beef wid you, I could shoot you because you know what, ninety-three out of every hundred of people weh get shot dehn get away with it. I am sure I am going to be one of those ninety-three so I am going to shoot you and I think I will get away with it.  We have to make sure that we could strengthen that part of the element when it comes to national security.”

The minor was caught in the vicinity of the Swing Bridge and was found in possession of a nine millimeter pistol loaded with eight live rounds.
