Amidst Controversy, Audibaldo Monima Resigns as North Region Health Manager

Last week Wednesday, News Five broke the story of the appointment of Audibaldo Monima Junior as Regional Health Manager for the north. The backlash over that appointment was fast and furious because it was patently clear that the former coast guard officer did not have the qualifications for the job. We confirmed that he possessed an associate’s degree and did not hold the required master’s degree or the five-year training necessary for the post. Well, tonight we can report that Monima Junior has stepped down from the job.  The Ministry of Health stepped in and after doing due diligence, asked him to leave or face the consequences. Well Monima Junior did the decent thing and resigned today. But even as he was only employed for a week, Monima Junior walks away with a hefty package which includes a three month’s salary.  The Health C.E.O., Doctor Ramon Figueroa explains.

“This happened today…we spoke to Mister Monima yesterday and we really asked him either to resign or we will have to proceed with his termination given the present condition on him not meeting the requirements for that particular position up north. Mister Monima was very receptive and today he informed us that he was in fact resigning. So I understand he submitted his resignation already.”

“Now sir, I know you guys said that he didn’t meet the requirements is that what triggered this because we know that there was a lot of backlash from his appointment…”

On the Phone: Dr. Ramon Figueroa

“We thought that, well without fighting the minister, the Director of Health Services, we were told that he had a master’s degree and we were confident that given the terms of reference that would have met the requirements, but when all this broke out and we went back to the files to look at his actual application/CV, we noted that in fact he didn’t have a master’s. So that was a fault of mine for not confirming; for taking things as face value, but we try to redress this issue by asking him to resign.”

Duane Moody

“Sir so who will replace Mister Monima because we understand that it has been a while that the north has had an actual regional manager because I believe that it was Miss Longsworth that was acting in that position for the last five years?”

On the Phone: Dr. Ramon Figueroa

“We will have to advertize the post.”

  1. CEO says:

This is an embarrassment for everyone that is involved and a travesty any way you look at it!: 1) the politician that recommended him 2) The politician that accepted the recommendation 3) The head of the health department that accepted his appointment and did not bother to check 4) The fool that accepted this appointment knowing fully well that he was utterly, unqualified for the position….they should all the punished and the people of Belize should not accept this.

Speak out against these injustices even when you are a beneficiaries of the crooked system. Speak out against these practices regardless.
