“Our group, we came back in February and did an initial site visit with myself and APA staff and really working with the Belize City Council consulting with local stakeholders and community members and we are plugging into the efforts that IAB and the ESNI program have laid out for the improvement of Belize City as a whole.  But something I want to underline is that our effort is really looking at the Yarborough community and we have a community-based plan and community engagement is very important.  You can do plans, you can do meetings and set up policies and ideas but if there isn’t real buy-in and investment and participation in development of ideas on how communities change it really needs to come from the community.  So we’ve been working already with our neighbors, we’ve done walks, we’ve talked to people and we’ve engaged with young people, something that as outsiders we’re very impressed that you have here incredible assets in the city is the real engagement and intelligence and energy that our young people have.”

A public consultation is scheduled for Friday evening at the Anglican Diocese Community Center.
