South Side Police Meet and Greet Residents in St. Martins

Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams led a team of officers into the Saint Martin De Porres area this afternoon, not to conduct a sting operation, but to make acquaintance with residents of the neighborhood.  While violent crimes have seen a significant decrease over the past few months, revisiting the community to note the concerns of those living in Lake-I gives the men and women of law enforcement an opportunity to address those issues.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“We continue our meet and greet efforts on south side Belize City.  As you would know that every week we choose a different area of south side to go and meet the people and get the concerns from.  We give them an opportunity to be able to express those, what are the issues that are affecting them from a police standpoint and as well as to get from them how the police are performing their duties over the period of time.  When we normally come the first time we get complains and concerns and we see how best we can address those concerns and complaints.  When we come back we get to hear from them if they are satisfied with what we’ve put in place to be able to address their concerns.  And as usual, we are getting some good reviews from the people, they are happy and they are satisfied that the ratings are good, in terms of how they rate the work of the police and we are hoping that that can continue.”

“Now the Mahogany Street Precinct is primarily responsible for policing this area.  There seems to have been a reduction in violent crimes, in terms of murders and other incidents involving either gun violence or otherwise.  Is this then to speak to the direct involvement of police within the area?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Yes, and the Mahogany sub precinct is actually administered by Precinct Two, from Raccoon Street downstairs.  That falls under the direct supervision of Ms. Moody who is the Officer Commanding Precinct Two.  And yes, you are right to say that over the past couple of months we have seen a drastic reduction in crime in the Mahogany Street area and that reduction is attributed to the work of the police in this area.”
