ACP Chester Williams Says Legislation Needed to Address Cyber-crimes
ACP Williams claims that not only because of that video, but because of a general culture of sexual exploitation on social media and the internet, legislators need to be more active in addressing violations in that arena.
ACP Chester Williams, Commander, Eastern Division South
“I think it is time that we do get legislative interventions in dealing with some of these things where cyber crimes are concerned—not only pornographic, but other aspects of cyber where people use the net to threaten people, to blackmail people and these sort of things. So we need to look at some legislation that can be implemented for us to be able to deal with these things because it is not getting less and less, but it is getting more and more. And it is time that something is put in place for us to be able to effectively deal with those things so that people get the message that they cannot be out there taking people pornography and put it out on the net and these sorts of things. It is despicable because children are on Facebook and the children are exposed to these things. Over the past week, I saw some videos that left me in shock and I think that it is, like you said, very, very much despicable and something needs to be done.”
