Half a Million Internet Users are Targeted for Social Media Campaign

John Burgos

The participating agencies have worked closely to design special packages that aim to show the true value of tourist attractions in Central America through social media and website placements.

John Burgos, Executive Director, B.T.I.A.

“Looking at it on a bigger picture, the strategic, sustainable development plan of tourism which was developed for 2014-2018 consists of three main strategic areas, one of which is marketing and promotion which falls under this current campaign.  Secondly, we have governments: whereby governments from different countries are able to address different issues that affect us all.  And, of course, thirdly, we have quality and sustainability.  Those of you [in the media] are going to be hearing a bit about that in the future, we are currently working on a certification plan that’s going to incorporate Belizean businesses to be able to meet certain standards and requirements which will allow them to promote themselves in a much better and sustainable manner. Just to give you an idea of the importance of tourism and how we believe that these partnerships with the private and public sector are of great importance.  So one other thing in terms of what the campaign is going to be offering, we’re going to be having different giveaways, different raffles, different prices, not only from Belize offering to Central America but also from Central American countries.  So what we’re going to encourage you to do is to follow what the campaign is going to be doing on social media.  We encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Google Plus and the different other forums that are going to be used to market this marketing campaign.  It is a great opportunity for us also to enjoy and appreciate what Central American countries have to offer.”

The tourism campaign was put together with aid from the Spain Fund SICA via the Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat, SITCA.
