World’s Greatest Boxer Mohammad Ali Dead at 74

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali – died over the weekend. Ali was at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona where he died on Friday. Considered one of the world’s greatest sporting figures, since his passing, tributes have been flowing from all over the world to honor the former world heavyweight champion. The reports are that he was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, the day prior to his death. The seventy-four-year old Ali had been diagnosed with a respiratory illness, which was complicated by Parkinson’s disease, a condition that he was suffering from. Many do not know that back in 1965, Ali came to Belize. The Records and Archives Department today released a photograph of Ali of that visit. He was photographed at the Government House. His visit was covered by the Belize Times in its July twenty-fifth edition of 1965 The article states that Ali performed an exhibition fight at the Palace Theatre and tickets sold out long before the fight was to get underway. According to the article, Ali came at the invitation of the Belize Amateur Boxing Association.
