According to Blake, the calendar also takes into consideration the date for the annual Carnival King and Queen Competition.

“It was a meeting between both parties and basically what we all did was, each side provided their view on what the different activities were and we tried to find that middle ground because there are some years that are clear cut.  There are no conflicts and there are no issues.  But when I looked at it I think it came down to maybe about two years; this current year where both activities were initially slated to be on the same date and I believe it’s sometime either in 2019 or 2021 where there would have been another conflict.  Now the other aspect of consideration is where the September Celebration, for the Tenth of September, sorry, comes full circle back around and it happens to be then on the weekend which means it’s a Saturday, then obviously that’s not a day that can work for either activity.  So those were the conflicts that we had to look at but I’ll be honest, it was a very amicable conversation between both parties.  Both were very receptive in making some concessions for us to be able to agree to these dates for the next fifteen years.”

The joint agreement was endorsed by Marcello Blake on behalf of the Chamber, while co-chair Diane Haylock, signed on behalf of the National Celebrations Commission.
