Cinderella Plaza Works Nearing Completion

Bad news at the memorial Park, but it’s not all bad. The Cinderella Plaza is almost done, and so are adjacent works on Kelly Street and Baymen Avenue. It’s welcome news for the residents of the area and for the taxi-men who had to endure months of gaping potholes. Mayor Bradley told us that where the works are concerned, all that’s left are the aesthetics.

“The physical works have been completed. The only thing is that we are doing is that we are asking…we have kind of a sketch drawing because we wanted to look as opposed to the physical works being completed, we also wanted it to look aesthetically pleasing so that there will be line marking, it’s going to be something that we are planning to have two booths out there for commercial activities; we’re planning on doing a bathroom for the taximen, building a nicer booth for them. I’m meeting with them this afternoon on site with the contractor to discuss some of the niceties that they would want. We’re planning on having a sign that says Cinderella Plaza and some historical artifact or something that will speak about the significance of that area and Cinderella Plaza to Belize City. We’re planning on having a green belt in terms of the median and some other areas, planning trees and so forth. So that the physical works have been completed. It’s already being used – at least one if not two of the lanes, so it’s already been opened up. I assume that within the next maybe two weeks all the niceties including some of the greenery and so forth, the painting of the lines and ensuring that everything is moved off and ready for one hundred percent operation – I expect that two weeks would be needed.”
